Prairie splits twinbill with City High

Gabi Carter drove in the winning run with a base hit in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday night as Prairie trimmed Iowa City High, 6-5, in the first game of a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader at Prairie.

Iowa City High blanked Prairie, 3-0, in the second game.

Prairie fell one game behind the Xavier Saints in the Valley Division of the Mississippi Valley Conference with two games left in the regular season. Xavier has an 18-6 record in the Valley Division and Prairie is 17-7.

 

Mallory Jones went 3-for-5 and scored two runs for Prairie (22-12) in the 6-5 victory. Natalie Rumer was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Olivia Usher went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Brittney Lash also had two RBIs. Carter was 2-for-5.

Katie Kuch pitched all eight innings for the victory.

Jones had both of Prairie's hits in the second game. Kuch pitched another complete game for the Hawks.

Iowa City High is 18-16 overall and 13-10 in the league.
