Mount Mercy women trim Statesmen

Andrea Lopez and Adelaide Bayne scored goals Wednesday as the Mount  Mercy women's soccer team edged William Penn, 2-1, in a Heart of  America Conference soccer match at the Plaster Athletic Complex.

Lopez tallied in the 37th minute on an assist from Megan Hall to give  the Mustangs a 1-0 lead at intermission. Bayne collected an unassisted  goal in the 54th minute for a 2-0 advantage.

William Penn scored its goal in the 80th minute, but Mount Mercy hung  on from there.

Mount Mercy raised its records to 6-5-2 overall and 3-4 in the  conference. William Penn fell to 5-6-1 overall and 1-6 in the league.
