Kate Busswitz wins Metro Spotlight Award

Kate Busswitz of Cedar Rapids Prairie is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Busswitz, a senior, helped the Prairie volleyball team capture top honors at the Linn-Mar Invitational Saturday with six straight 2-0 victories.

Busswitz collected 41 kills in the tournament for the balanced Hawks. She leads Prairie this season with 80 kills and 31 blocks in 11 matches.

Phillips, Gorsich share Metro Spotlight

Reese Phillips and Daniel Gorsich from the Linn-Mar football team are the co-winners of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Phillips and Gorsich enjoyed a record-setting night Friday when the Lions walloped Clinton, 50-14.

Phillips, a junior, set a school record with five touchdown passes. Gorsich, a senior, tied the school record by scoring four touchdowns in a single game, all on passes from Phillips.

Brizard wins Metro Spotlight Award

Serena Brizard of Linn-Mar is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Brizard, a freshman, helped the Linn-Mar swimming team win the Muscatine Invitational on Saturday.

Brizard captured the 200 individual medley in 2:25.62 and claimed the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.11. She also swam on the victorious 400 freestyle relay.

Eivins wins Metro Spotlight Award

Jared Eivins of Cedar Rapids Jefferson is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Eivins a senior quarterback, rushed for three touchdowns and passed for two TDs Friday night when the J-Hawks defeated Cedar Rapids Prairie, 55-37, in a Class 4A football game at John Wall Field.

Eivins carried the ball 24 times for 102 yards and scored touchdowns from 2, 7 and 3 yards. He completed 8 of 14 passes for 97 yards with a 26-yard TD pass to Jalyn Stafford and an 18-yard strike to Brock Hunt.

Gorman wins Metro Spotlight Award

Reagan Gorman of Washington is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Gorman, a freshman, finished in second place at the 31st Prairie Invitational cross country meet Saturday morning. She covered the 5 kilometer course in 19 minutes, 38 seconds in her first varsity race for the Warriors. She trailed Iowa City West junior Gabby Skopec by 12 seconds.

Gorman stands only 5-foot-2 and weighs about 85 pounds, but she proved that size does not matter in distance running. She dominated her middle school races and has already stamped herself as one of the top runners in the state.
