Franklin, Hobbs power Warriors past Linn-Mar

Unable to counter the lethal one-two punch of Washington’s Aleena Hobbs and Dani Franklin, the Linn-Mar Lions were laid low on their home floor Friday night, 54-33.

Franklin had 17 points and Hobbs 15 to lead the No.8 Warriors (14-3, 8-2).

The two juniors were also the main cogs in their team’s rebounding machine, with Hobbs pulling down 11 and Franklin eight.

Waterloo West girls rout Linn-Mar bowlers

Waterloo West had three bowlers roll 400 series and the Wahawks routed Linn-Mar, 3057-2486, Friday in girls bowling at Cedar Rapids Bowl.

Brooke McMorran led Linn-Mar with a 195 high game and 377 series.

Alexus Wilson led Waterloo West with a 433 series. Jordan Newman shot high game of 249.

Prairie, Linn-Mar matmen will host duals

Cedar Rapids Prairie and Linn-Mar will host meets in the Class 3A regional dual team wrestling tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

The top 16 teams in the state were selected for the regional meet, based on rankings by the Iowa Wrestling Coaches Association.

The eight regional winners will advance to the state dual team tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Linn-Mar boys tip Waterloo West, 53-52

Jon Schlotterback scored 17 points and Nic Uhlir tossed in nine to boost Linn-Mar to a 53-52 win over Waterloo West Tuesday night in Mississippi Valley Conference basketball at Linn-Mar.

Matt Lassen and Derik Gogg added eight points apiece for Linn-Mar (6-7, 5-4).

Carderius Smith Led Waterloo West (7-6, 4-4) with 18 points.

Lions' upset bid spoiled by No.10 Wahawks

WATERLOO - No.10 Waterloo West came storming back in the fourth quarter to foil Linn-Mar's upset bid, 42-37, Tuesday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game.

Linn-Mar battled back from a five-point halftime deficit to take a 29-25 lead after three quarters. The Lions were outscored 17-8 in the fourth quarter.

Mykaela Brandt scored 14 points to lead Linn-Mar (7-10, 4-5).
