Dighton helps Jeff girls beat Rams

DUBUQUE – Kennedy Dighton scored 17 points to lead the Jefferson girls basketball team over Dubuque Senior, 68-51, Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Senior.

The J-Hawks fell behind 23-12 in the first quarter, but they went on a 23-9 run in the second quarter for a 35-32 halftime lead. Jefferson pulled away in the second half.

Sammy Kitterman scored 10 points for Jefferson (6-5). Emily Oler had nine points and eight rebounds. Kylie Wise and Erin Kuba each had nine points.

Emily Mott scored 15 points to lead the Rams (2-10) and Kai Biehl added 12 points.

Marion girls put clamps on Vinton

The sixth-ranked Marion girls basketball team held Vinton-Shellsburg to just six field goals in a 46-25 win Tuesday in a Wamac Conference game at Marion.

The Indians jumped to a 10-2 lead in the first four minutes before leading 17-11 at halftime.

Chloe Rice scored 11 points for Marion (7-3).

Vinton-Shellsburg fell to 3-9.

Person leads Prairie girls by East

Halle Person scored 20 points to lead the Prairie girls basketball team in a 78-37 win over Waterloo East Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Prairie.

The Prairie Hawks led 25-8 after the first quarter and kept the pressure on the rest of the way.

Olivia Usher added 14 points for the Hawks (5-5), Sarah Schmitt had 12 points and Maggie Lampe scored 10.

Kerris Roberts scored 16 points to lead the Trojans (1-11).

Andersen nets 26 to spark Xavier

WATERLOO – McKenna Andersen poured in six 3-pointers and scored 26 points as the Xavier girls basketball team topped Waterloo West, 63-54, Friday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at West.

The Wahawks trailed just 55-53 with three minutes left, but the Saints held on down the stretch. Xavier shot 19-of-23 from the free-throw line on the night. Andersen was 6-of-6 from the line in the second half alone.

Lexi Noonan scored 13 points for Xavier (6-5) and Amelia Ivester added 11.

Aliyah Robinson scored 18 points to lead Waterloo West (4-7).

Balanced Washington girls top Hempstead

The Washington girls basketball team went on a 22-9 run in the second quarter and proceeded to beat Dubuque Hempstead, 67-56, Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Washington.

Jayla Johnson led a balanced attack with 16 points for the Warriors (6-5). Payton Bruner had 13 points, Vanessa Eniola scored 12, Joniqua Clark added 10 and Anne Visser chipped in nine.

The Rams fell to 3-9.
