Arrington swaps sports for modeling

As one of the managers for the Cedar Rapids Washington girls basketball team, Alanna Arrington would really rather be out there on the court playing with her friends.

It’s just that she must miss too many practices and games.

A talented multi-sport athlete, she’s swapped her sneakers for high-heels as a full-fledged professional fashion model.

In a career that’s taken off in the past year, the high school junior is under contract with top-flight modeling agencies in St. Louis, Chicago and Los Angeles and soon, she hopes, New York and perhaps even Paris.

RoughRiders blank Sioux City, 4-0

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders dominated Sioux City, 4-0, in a USHL match in front of 1,705 fans Thursday at the Ice Arena.

Ross Colton and Cal Burke scored first-period goals for Cedar Rapids, with assists by Hugh McGing, Riese Zmolek and Luke Morgan. McGing and Mitch Reinke scored in the second period, with assists from Jack Ahcan, Pavel Tkachkov and Tyler Irvine.

Goaltender Benjamin Blacker earned the shutout with 22 saves as Cedar Rapids out-shot Sioux City, 39-22.

The RoughRiders are second in the Eastern Conference with an 18-8-2 record and 39 points. Sioux City is fourth in the Western Conference at 15-14-1 and 31 poinds.

Linn-Mar swimmers dunked by Rams

DUBUQUE – The Dubuque Senior boys swimming team handed Linn-Mar a 100-54 loss in a Mississippi Valley Conference dual meet Thursday at Senior.

Matt Peng won the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 55.52 seconds for the Lions. Brycen Snell took the 200 individual medley in 2:13.74.

No. 9 Prairie matmen flex muscles

The ninth-ranked Prairie wrestling team earned a pair of wins and Xavier dropped two matches in a Mississippi Valley Conference double dual meet Thursday at Xavier.

The Prairie Hawks beat Waterloo West, 64-12, and the Saints, 62-11. The Wahawks beat Xavier, 42-39.

Conrad Braswell (106 pounds), Mike Jasa (152), Preston LaGrange (182) and Taylor Mehmen (195) had two pins for Prairie. Sam Uthoff had a pin and a technical fall at 132.

Clint Lembeck had a pin and a technical fall at 138 for the Saints. Josh Gerke had a pin and a decision at 145.

Marion wrestlers split Wamac meets

The Marion wrestling team split a double dual Thursday at Marion, beating Benton Community 43-36 and losing to Center Point-Urbana 39-34 in Wamac Conference action.

Caleb Conway and Colin Conway had two pins at 145 and 152 pounds, respectively, to lead the Indians. Brady Bartz also had a major decision and a decision at 160.
