Kennedy boys dunked by Hempstead

The Kennedy boys basketball trailed Dubuque Hempstead 34-19 and couldn’t come back in the second half, losing 57-44 to the Mustangs on Friday at Kennedy.

Derrick Diggins had 12 points and was the only player to score in double digits for the Cougars (2-4).

Connor Duax had 20 points for the Mustangs (3-2), Ryan McDonough had 15 and Lucas Duax added 10.

Techau sparks Saints by J-Hawks

Max Techau scored 23 points to lead the Xavier boys basketball team to a 59-44 win over Jefferson on Friday at Jefferson.

The J-Hawks cut the lead to 37-34 with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Saints answered with a 22-10 run to finish the game.

Blake Whitten had 10 points for Xavier (4-1) and Matt Mims added nine points.

Royshawn Webb scored 10 points to lead Jefferson (2-5).

Visser helps Wash upset IC West

Anne Visser scored 15 points and had four steals as the Washington girls basketball team upset 15th-ranked Iowa City West, 60-51, Friday at Washington.

Jayla Johnson had 13 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and four steals for the Warriors (4-4).

Washington led 35-33 entering the fourth quarter before pulling away down the stretch.

Maddie Huinker had 11 points and Logan Cook had 10 for the Women of Troy (6-1).

CVC boys fall at Cal-Wheatland

WHEATLAND – Calamus-Wheatland handed the Cedar Valley Christian boys basketball team a 66-27 loss Friday.

Travis Geels scored 10 points with eight rebounds for the Huskies (1-5). Mike Scroggs had five points and also grabbed eight rebounds.

Calamus-Wheatland is 2-7.

CENTER POINT – Class 3A third-ranked Center Point-Urbana handed the Class 4A fifth-ranked Marion girls basketball team a 58-42 loss Friday.

Chloe Rice scored 23 points to lead the Indians (5-2) and Mia Laube added eight points.

Arika Wooldrige scored 21 points to lead the Stormin’ Pointers (8-0).
