Prairie boys fall to IC West

The Prairie boys bowling team lost to Iowa City West 2,736 pins to 2,560 Friday at Lancer Lanes.

Paul Toczylowski had a 212 game and a 382 series to lead the Prairie Hawks.

Nick Rohm rolled a 213 game and 396 series for the Trojans.

Iowa City West: Nick Rohm 183-213=396, Patrick Wood 201-190=391, Jordan Tiegs 189-180=369, Corey Roth 178-204=382, Ryan Stark 159-171=330, Josh Pelland 119-136=255.

Prairie: Paul Toczylowski 170-212=382, Matt Galloro 186-170=356, Shawn Wille 178-176=354, Brendan Poock 187-163=350, Dylan Kacena 113-127=240.

Kennedy boys edged in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY - The Cedar Rapids Kennedy boys basketball team staged a furious rally and took the lead in the fourth quarter Friday night, but the Cougars ran out of steam and dropped their opener to Sioux City North 60-56 in Sioux City.

Kennedy trailed 43-31, but the Cougars rallied and grabbed a 48-47 edge with three minutes left with a 17-4 surge.

The Cougars led 54-51 with two minutes left, but Sioux City North scored five straight points for a 56-54 lead. Michael Bisenius tied the game for Kennedy with a layup with 1:32 left to make it 56-56.

Sioux City North made three free throws for a 59-56 lead. Bisenius missed a 3-pointer that would have tied the game and North made another free throw for the final four-point margin.

Drake Brewster led Kennedy with 13 points. Bisenius scored 12 points and Derrick Diggins had 11.

RoughRiders rally past Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders poured in five goals in the third period Friday night and rallied for a 7-3 victory over Sioux Falls in a USHL game before 6,432 fans in South Dakota.

The RoughRiders trailed 3-2 before their big explosion in the final stanza.

Mitch Reinke scored on a power play at the 4:07 mark of the third period to tie the game, 3-3, and Ross Colton scored 34 seconds later to give the RoughRiders a 4-3 advantage. Luke Morgan, Liam Walsh and Justin Cole also found the mark in the final period as the RoughRiders poured it on.

Colton began the scoring for Cedar Rapids in the second period and finished the game with two goals. Hugh McGing also tallied for the RoughRiders.

Ben Blacker stopped 27 shots in goal for Cedar Rapids.

Prairie girls trimmed by Cedar Falls

Calli Johnson scored 16 points Friday night as the Cedar Falls Tigers trimmed Prairie, 51-49, in a Mississippi Valley Conference basketball game at Prairie.

Prairie had a chance to tie the game with two seconds left, but the Hawks missed the front end of a one-and-one opportunity at the foul line.

Olivia Usher scored 13 points and Lynsey Altenhofen had 11 for Prairie (1-2).

Cedar Falls raised its record to 2-0.

Manderscheid nets 19 as Indians fall

Jacob Manderscheid scored 19 points for the Marion Indians on Friday night in a 59-52 loss to Solon in a Wamac Conference game at Marion.

The Indians led at halftime, 30-27, but Solon outscored their hosts 17-7 in the third quarter to take control.

Streeter McIlravy led Solon (2-0) with 17 points. Halston Durr had 15 points.

Marion fell to 0-2.
