Wash girls pound Davenport in opener

DAVENPORT – Anne Visser scored 15 points Tuesday night as the Washington girls basketball team began the season by dumping Davenport Central, 78-49, in Davenport.

Payton Bruner contributed 13 points for the Warriors. Joniqua Clark finished with 11 points, six steals and four assists.

Andersen helps Saints top Decorah

DECORAH - McKenna Andersen scored 11 points Tuesday night as the Xavier Saints topped Decorah, 41-21, in a low-scoring girls basketball game to begin the season in Decorah.

Lexi Noonan had eight points for the Saints, who are ranked No. 11 in Class 4A.

Decorah made only nine field goals in the game.

Cedar Valley girls nipped by Alburnett

ALBURNETT – Maggie Cach had 18 points and eight rebounds to lead the Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team in a season-opening 55-52 loss to Alburnett on Tuesday.

Molly Hembera and Candace Wilson had 12 points and four rebounds for Cedar Valley. Emma Slagle added six points.

   

Dighton leads Jeff girls in setback

ELDRIDGE – Kennedy Dighton scored 14 points to lead the Jefferson girls basketball team in a 55-34 loss to North Scott to open the season Tuesday.

North Scott jumped to a 19-6 lead in the first quarter and led 36-10 at halftime.

Olson sparks Eagles by Black Hawk

MOLINE, Ill. - Jacob Olson popped in 17 points Tuesday night to help the sixth-ranked Kirkwood Eagles trim Black Hawk, 73-70, in a junior college basketball game in Moline, Ill.

Olson, a sophomore from Cedar Rapids Jefferson, canned three 3-pointers.

Cristen Wilson collected a double-double for Kirkwood (8-1) with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Josh Meier finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Hunter Rhodes collected 10 points and five assists.
