Cougars boast top offense and defense
Cedar Rapids Kennedy will be equipped with the Metro area's top offense and defense Friday when the Cougars attempt to finish their first undefeated regular season in school history.
Kennedy, which closes at Waterloo West, is No. 1 in the Metro in total offense (414 yards per game) and total defense (181.1 yards allowed per game). The Cougars (8-0) have allowed just 27 total points in their last six games.
The offense is led by senior running back Tyler Dralle, who has rushed for 1,351 yards and 15 touchdowns. His rushing total is No. 13 in Metro history and No. 2 in Class 4A this season. He is tied for fifth in 4A in touchdowns.
Dralle is likely to pass J.C. Steinberg for second in Kennedy history for single-season rushing yards. Steinberg had 1,377 in 1997. Alex Hillyer has the school record with 1,662 yards in 2012.
The Metro has four of the top 12 scoring teams in 4A, with Washington sixth (38.5), Jefferson eighth (37.3), Kennedy (33.0) and Prairie (32.3).
