Jefferson girls shine at Mt. Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT - The Cedar Rapids Jefferson girls track team won four relays at the Mount Pleasant Invitational on Thursday.

The J-Hawks claimed the shuttle hurdle relay, 4x200 relay, sprint medley and 4x100 relay.

Jasmine Blue, Morgan Meese, Lucy Schneekloth and Abbie Ranschau ran on three of the victorious relays for Jefferson. Autumn Anderson had a hand in two of the victories. Ellie Trosky and Hanna Coyle were members of the shuttle hurdle relay.

Jefferson placed second in the 4x400 relay and the 4x800 relay. Ranschau finished third in the 100 hurdles.

Mount Pleasant led the way with five victories in the meet. Team scores were not kept.

RoughRiders rally for clutch victory

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders might not win the Eastern Conference title in the USHL this season, but it won't be for lack of effort.

The RoughRiders got off to a slow start against Lincoln at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena Wednesday night, but they rallied for a 4-3 victory before 1,925 fans to stay within striking distance of first place.

Youngstown leads the Eastern Conference with a 37-14-5 record for 79 points. The RoughRiders are three points behind Youngstown with a 38-18-0 mark for 76 points with four games left in the regular season for both teams.

No. 11 Eagles split with No.5 DMACC

BOONE - The Kirkwood Eagles outscored DMACC 16-5 Wednesday in a conference softball doubleheader in Boone, but all they got for their efforts was a split.

The fifth-ranked DMACC Bears edged the 11th-ranked Eagles, 3-1, in the first game of their twinbill. Kirkwood rebounded and bashed the Bears in the second game, 15-2, in five innings.

The split left DMACC in first place in the league standings with an 11-1 record. Kirkwood is in second place with a 9-1 mark. The Bears have a 29-6 overall record and the Eagles are 21-7.

Brooke Prior went 3-for-4 with a triple, home run and five RBIs for Kirkwood in the victory. Chasney Jenkins was 4-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBIs.

Coe softball team swept by Rams

MOUNT VERNON - The Cornell Rams swept a softball doubleheader from the Coe Kohawks Wednesday in Mount Vernon, 7-3 and 2-1.

The outcome left Cornell with a 16-3 overall record. Coe fell to 15-9.

Kelsey Boss was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Cornell in the opener. Kylea Weber went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Maliah Fligg and Ali Givens had two hits for the Kohawks.

Coe had a 3-2 lead in the first game, but Cornell scored five times in the bottom of the sixth to take command.

Boss went 2-for-3 for Cornell in the second game. Weber scored two runs. Brianna Gardner went 3-for-3 for Coe and Mallory McArtor was 2-for-2.

The Kohawks scored their only run in the seventh inning to pull within 2-1, but could not get the equalizer.
