Czerwiec stars for Mount Mercy baseball

FREMONT, Neb. - Austin Czerwiec belted a three-run homer and was the winning pitcher Saturday as the Mount Mercy Mustangs defeated Midland (Neb.), 8-6, in the second game of an NAIA baseball doubleheader.

Midland took the first game, 3-2.

Czerwiec hit his three-run homer in the fourth inning to give the Mustangs a 6-4 lead. Cody Bell, Ricardo Baida and Casey Dahm had two hits for Mount Mercy in the game. Dahm drove in two runs and Cody Williams scored two runs.

Mustangs clipped by Davenport at NAIA

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - Mount Mercy's bid to become the most successful men's basketball team in school history fell a little short Friday night.

Bishop Robinson poured in 31 points as Davenport University of Michigan trimmed the Mustangs, 70-67, in the Sweet 16 of the NAIA Division II national tournament in Point Lookout, Mo.

Ian Matos led Mount Mercy with 17 points. Alex Houston scored 13, James Boonstoppel 12 and Kyle Lamaak 10. Dondre Osborne finished with nine points, five rebounds and four assists for the Mustangs, who ended the season with a 27-5 record.

Robinson, a 6-foot-3 forward, shot 11-for-14 from the field and was 9-for-13 at the foul line.

Jenks takes 3rd at New Balance race

NEW YORK CITY - Linn-Mar junior Stephanie Jenks placed third in the 5K run Friday at the New Balance Indoor Nationals at The Armory Track & Field Center in New York City.

Jenks was clocked in 16 minutes, 40.13 seconds.

Anna Rohrer of Mishawaka High School in Indiana won the race in 16:10.79.2. Ryen Frazier of Ravenscroft School was second in 16:12.81. There were 22 elite runners from across the country in the event.

Jenks nursed a hip injury during the winter. This was her first major competition of the track season and the latest high finish in national events. The top six finishers in Friday's race were named All-Americans.

Osborne picked for NAIA all-star game

KANSAS CITY - Mount Mercy senior Dondre Osborne has been selected to compete in the NAIA all-star basketball game at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City on Saturday, March 21.

Osborne, a 6-foot-1 guard, helped Mount Mercy win the Midwest Collegiate Conference titles this season and was named the MVP of the league. The Mustangs are currently competing in the NAIA Division II national tournament.

Osborne is averaging 14.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.5 steals for the Mustangs (27-4).

Clemens helps Kirkwood blank Kishwaukee

VERO BEACH, Fla. - Austin Clemens pitched a strong game Friday as the Kirkwood Eagles blanked Kishwaukee, 8-0, in the first contest of their spring trip to Florida.

Kirkwood lost to UCONN-Avery Point, 6-5, in its second game Friday.

Clemens, a freshman from Dubuque, tossed six innings in the shutout victory. He struck out five batters, allowed six hits and did not walk anyone. Adam Marra pitched the seventh inning.

Sulliam Rios Reyes hit a solo home run against Kishwaukee. Ozzie Adams was 3-for-3, Zach Patterson drove in two runs and Noah Dostal drove in two runs.
