Sneed paces No.4 Eagles by Lakers

ESTHERVILLE - Ariel Sneed scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds Saturday as the fourth-ranked Kirkwood women's basketball team topped Iowa Lakes, 63-49, in an ICCAC game in Estherville.

Danielle Woolfolk had 11 points for Kirkwood (15-3, 4-1).

Alissa Johnson scored 10 points for Iowa Lakes (4-13, 1-3).

Kirkwood men fall at Iowa Lakes

ESTHERVILLE - The 13th-ranked Kirkwood Eagles lost their first ICCAC game of the season Saturday against No.20 Iowa Lakes, 71-61, in Estherville.

Joe Tagarelli scored 18 points to lead Kirkwood (11-5, 3-1). Ajay Lawton added 10.

Deondre Parks pumped in 27 points and hit four 3-pointers for Iowa Lakes (10-5, 3-1).

Linn-Mar upends No.7 Sioux City North

SIOUX CITY - Nic Uhlir popped in 20 points and Jason Bohannon added 16 Saturday night as the Linn-Mar Lions upset No.7 Sioux City North, 66-61, at the Tyson Event Center in Sioux City.

The Lions trailed, 48-46, entering the fourth quarter before going on a 20-point binge to secure the victory.

Bohannon hit four 3-pointers for Linn-Mar (5-4) and helped the cause with six rebounds and four assists. Uhlir nailed a pair of triples. Ben Larson grabbed eight rebounds.

Griffin Brennecke, sidelined since before the holidays with a concussion, returned to action for the Lions and scored nine points.

RoughRiders fall short in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders were tied with the best team in the USHL in the third period Saturday night before falling short against Omaha, 5-3, before 3,657 fans at Ralston Arena.

Andrew Oglevie scored on a power play with 5:19 elapsed in the third period to pull the RoughRiders into a 3-3 tie, but Matt Nelson scored two minutes later to give Omaha the lead for good at 4-3.

Omaha added an empty-net goal with 56 seconds left for the final margin.

Corey Petrash and Oglevie scored the first two goals for Cedar Rapids. Oglevie scored both of his goals on power plays after Omaha had taken a 3-1 lead.

Jeff girls push No.6 Cougars to limit

Jefferson's Kiddie Corps nearly came of age Friday night.

The young Jefferson girls threw a scare into No.6 Kennedy before falling short, 43-39, in a Mississippi Valley Conference defensive tussle at Kennedy.

The J-Hawks outscored Kennedy, 28-18, in the second half and held the high-powered Cougars to just three field goals in the third and fourth quarters. And when Amanda Ollinger hit a 3-pointer to pull Jefferson within 37-36 with three minutes left, it look like the visiting team might ride the momentum to a monumental victory.

"I'm glad that we competed. That's the biggest thing," said Jefferson Coach Jason Edwards. "We came in at halftime and that's all we talked about: Sticking together and competing, and realizing that it's all for one and one for all.

"I think we definitely did that."

The Cougars, playing without flu-ridden point guard Jordan Holmes, found a way to beat Jefferson for the the 14th straight time, but it wasn't easy.
