Wilson stars for No. 2 Eagles

WINNEBAGO, Neb. - All-American Doug Wilson enjoyed another stellar game for the Kirkwood men's basketball team Saturday.

Wilson collected 31 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals as the second-ranked Eagles defeated Little Priest Tribal College, 88-57, in an ICCAC conference game on the road.

Luke Appel also had a double-double for Kirkwood with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jamal Stephenson scored 14 points.

KCC women pound Little Priest

WINNEBAGO, Neb. - The fourth-ranked Kirkwood women's basketball team dumped Little Priest Tribal College, 75-44, in an ICCAC conference game in Nebraska Saturday.

The game was tied 24-24 at halftime, but the Eagles began the third quarter with a 22-2 spurt to take command.

Anasha Hurst scored 17 points to lead Kirkwood (19-5, 9-0). Paige Bradford contributed 16 points and eight rebounds. Mackenzie Jenkins had 14 points. Leah Robinson grabbed nine rebounds.

Little Priest fell to 10-11 overall and 2-7.

Mount Mercy volleyball goes 4-0

ELGIN, Ill. - The Mount Mercy men's volleyball team won two more matches at the Judson University Tournament Saturday and finished the event with a perfect 4-0 record.

The Mustangs topped Siena Heights, 3-1, in their first match with set scores of 25-22, 25-20, 24-26, 25-19.

Mount Mercy blanked Goshen College, 3-0, with set scores of 25-23, 25-20, 25-22.

Nikola Stoimenov collected 16 kills against Siena Heights. Ben Steffen had 10 kills and eight blocks. Strahil Svilenski had eight kills, Evan Gaskill had seven kills and Mitchell Wannahwilai made 15 digs. Andrew Colantone contributed 37 assists and five blocks.

Mustangs spike 2 foes in tourney

ELGIN, Ill. - The Mount Mercy men's volleyball team won both of its  matches at the Judson University Tournament Friday.

The Mustangs took care of Lindenwood University-Belleville, 3-1, with  set scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-17.

Mount Mercy knocked off Lawrence Tech, 3-1, with set scores of 28-30,  25-13, 25-21, 25-17.

Ben Steffen collected 28 kills for the Mustangs Friday, with 18 kills  against Lawrence Tech and 10 kills against Lindenwood. He also had six  blocks against Lindenwood.

Andrew Colantone dished out 85 assists in the two matches, with 49  against Lawrence Tech and 36 against Lindenwood. He had four blocks in  the victory over Lindenwood.

Nickelson wins twice for Mustangs

DECORAH - Luke Nickelson of Mount Mercy won two events at the Luther Alumni indoor track meet in Decorah Saturday.

Nickelson, from Nipomo, Calif., captured the long jump (6.59 meters) and the triple jump (13.44 meters) for the Mustangs.

Michael Marshall placed second in the 1,000 meter run (2:39.62). Rafael Passanha finished third in the 200 meter dash (23.97), Josh Long was third in the 800 (2:07.36) and the Mustangs took third in the 4x200 relay (1:40.24).

Kathryn Vander Poel of Mount Mercy claimed the women's 1,000 meter run (3:00.98) in a tight race with teammate Andrea Ertz, who finished second in 3:01.13.
