The Marion girls talk about how passionate new coach Corby Laube is about the game of basketball.

Turns out he’s prophetic, as well.

When his young squad bounced back from a shaky start at home Friday night to take a 12-point lead over Class 3A No.12 Center Point-Urbana at halftime, Laube was still cautious.

Jefferson's Jacob Olson had three baskets in the first 10 minutes of the game and then the West High defense shut him down for the rest of the night.  Olson ended the game with six points.

Wempen not focused on 4 state titles (yet)

Matt Wempen won a state wrestling title for the Linn-Mar Lions last season as a freshman, which means he has a chance to become only the 22nd four-time champion in state history.

He'd rather not think about it.

"I have to concentrate on being a two-time state champion before I do a fourth," he remarked Thursday night. "I'm going to take it one year at a time."
