Kennedy manhandles Wash boys, 46-23

Washington scored the opening basket of its contest with in cross-town rival Kennedy.

But the 2-0 lead was the only lead the Warriors had all night. Kennedy whipped Washington, 46-23, Friday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys basketball game at Washington.

The third quarter really told the story of the Warriors (0-15, 0-12) for this game and season as they were held scoreless for the entire eight minutes and nearly another three minutes in the fourth quarter.

Paige, unselfish Lions dunk Xavier, 67-34

Marcus Paige and the Linn-Mar Lions put on a spectacular show Friday night before an adoring home crowd.

The Xavier Saints, who nearly upset the Lions two weeks ago, were the unfortunate victims.

Paige tossed in 29 points and added a sensational dunk to his highlight reel as the sixth-ranked Lions demolished the Saints, 67-34, in a Mississippi Valley Conference blowout at Linn-Mar.

There are no shooting stars on the Xavier girls basketball team that downed Linn-Mar, 43-34, Friday night at home – just a galaxy of players who split playing time to keep the pressure on and share the offensive output.

The Saints (14-5, 9-5) used their relentless defense and running offense to contain the Lions and surge to a commanding 30-15 lead at the end of the third period.
