No. 3 DMACC dumps No. 12 Eagles

BOONE - The 12th-ranked Kirkwood men's basketball trailed by 20 points  at halftime Wednesday night and fell to third-ranked DMACC, 78-58, in  an ICCAC conference game in Boone.

The Eagles dropped to 12-4 overall and 2-1 in the league. DMACC raised  its records to 16-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

DJ Purnell finished with 12 points and eight rebounds for Kirkwood.  Jamal Stephenson hit four 3-pointers and scored 12 points. Luke Appel  had nine points and nine rebounds.

Zach Lester led DMACC with 16 points. Willie Guy, a freshman from  Cedar Rapids Jefferson, had a double-double with 10 points and 11  rebounds.

Mustangs fall to 1-10 in Heart

The Mount Mercy women's basketball team lost to Culver-Stockton,  71-55, in a Heart of America Conference game at the Hennessey  Recreation Center Wednesday night.

The Mustangs fell to 4-12 overall and 1-10 in the conference.  Culver-Stockton raised its records to 11-7 overall and 7-5 in the  league.

Sarah Moffett led Mount Mercy with 17 points and eight rebounds.  Brianna Thomas scored 12 points and Sandra Mia netted 11.

Ryan Dooley led Culver-Stockton with 19 points.

Mustangs ambushed by MidAmerica Nazarene

OLATHE, Kan. - The Mount Mercy men's basketball team was pounded by  MidAmerica Nazarene, 103-74, in a Heart of America Conference game at  Bell Family Arena Monday.

The game was postponed two days due to inclement weather and hazardous  travel conditions Saturday.

Patrick Cairns scored 26 points off the bench to lead MidAmerica  Nazarene. Trey Brown popped in five 3-pointers and 22 points for the  winners, who had five players in double figures. Dakota Quinn  collected a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds for  MidAmerica Nazarene (11-5, 7-3).

RoyShawn Webb led Mount Mercy with 16 points. Dennis McKinney scored  14 points and DJ Johnson added 10 markers for the Mustangs (8-8, 3-7).

MidAmerica Nazarene scorched the nets for 56.9 percent, hitting 41 of  72 shots.

Nazarene dunks Mount Mercy women

OLATHE, Kan. - The Mount Mercy women's basketball team had a tough  time against 19th-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene Monday and dropped the  Heart of America Conference encounter, 83-39, at the Bell Family Arena.

Megan Scott scored 22 points for MidAmerica Nazarene and Mackenzie Loe  snared 20 rebounds in the lopsided victory, which raised Nazarene's  records to 8-5 overall and 7-3 in the league.

Chailey Cabalis scored 14 points for the Mustangs (4-11, 1-9).

Mount Mercy shot 16 for 60 from the field for 26.7 percent and was  pounded on the backboards, 63-36.

McKinney nets 39 to power Mustangs

Aaron Jennings collected his first victory over Central Methodist  Wednesday night during his five years as the men's basketball coach at  Mount Mercy.

Dennis McKinney made sure it happened.

McKinney poured in a career-high 39 points as the Mustangs topped  Central Methodist, 100-86, in a Heart of America Conference game at  the Hennessey Recreation Center.

The breakthrough gave Mount Mercy an important victory over a  perennial league power, although Central Methodist has a losing record  this year.

"Been close a couple of times," said Jennings, recalling past games.  "It feels good."

McKinney, a Cedar Rapids Jefferson grad, grabbed 11 rebounds for his  first double-double of the season and popped in four 3-pointers while  playing 36 minutes.

"He's a beast," said Jennings. "Tonight he had it going. It's special."
