No. 1 Eagles crush Iowa Central

FORT DODGE - The top-ranked Kirkwood women's basketball team cruised to an 85-39 victory over Iowa Central Wednesday night in an ICCAC conference game in Fort Dodge.

Paige Bradford led the Eagles with 16 points, five assists and four rebounds. Kemara Watson shot 6-for-6 from the field and finished with 15 points. Delani Harris added 13 points. Natalie Tomaszewski blocked three shots.

Auriyah Stewart scored 10 points for Iowa Central, which fell to 9-7 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Kirkwood raised its records to 16-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

No. 13 KCC men win 7th straight

FORT DODGE - Seybian Sims snared 15 rebounds Wednesday night as the 13th-ranked Kirkwood Eagles defeated Iowa Central, 79-68, in an ICCAC conference game for their seventh straight victory.

Luke Appel finished with 20 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Eagles, who raised their records to 12-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Devonte Thedford contributed 19 points and six rebounds for Kirkwood. Jamal Stephenson chipped in with 16 points.

Marquis Henry scored 16 points for Iowa Central (5-10, 0-2).

33 turnovers help doom Mustangs

The Mount Mercy women's basketball team committed 33 turnovers  Wednesday night and lost to eighth-ranked Central Methodist, 103-74,  in a Heart of America Conference game at the Hennessey Recreation  Center.

Central Methodist committed 25 turnovers, but overcame its own  giveaways by shooting 54.2 percent from the floor and sinking half its  3-pointers (15 of 30).

Sandra Mia scored 20 points for Mount Mercy (4-10, 1-8). Brianna  Thomas finished with 11 points. Abbi Kinnaird and Chailey Cabalis  scored 10 points apiece.

Mercedes Jefflo topped a balanced attack for Central Methodist with 17  points, leading six players into double figures. The winners raised  their records to 14-1 overall and 8-1 in the conference, tied for  first place with Grand View.

Mount Mercy men trimmed by Peru

PERU, Neb. - The Mount Mercy men's basketball team was trimmed by Peru  State, 79-73, in a Heart of America Conference game in Nebraska  Saturday.

The Mustangs trailed by 11 points early in the second half, but they  rallied and pulled within 74-73 with 38 seconds remaining on a basket  by DJ Johnson.

Deonte McReynolds countered with a 3-pointer for Peru State and Mount  Mercy did not score again.

Dennis McKinney led the Mustangs with four 3-pointers and 20 points.  RoyShawn Webb contributed 15 points and six rebounds. Davion Watson  scored 13 points. Bailey Basala finished with nine rebounds and five  assists.

Mustangs falter in 4th quarter

PERU, Neb. - The Peru State women's basketball team exploded for a  17-0 burst in the fourth quarter Saturday and topped Mount Mercy,  75-67, in a Heart of America Conference game.

Mount Mercy led, 59-55, with 4:54 left, but Peru State rode its 17-0  spurt to a commanding 72-59 advantage with 1:36 remaining.

Brianna Thomas topped the Mustangs with 23 points. Sandra Mia  contributed 11 points and nine rebounds. Kennedi Fulwylie had 10  points and eight rebounds. Taseandra Parker grabbed nine rebounds.  Abbi Kinnaird had four assists.

Maddy McPhillips scored 16 points for Peru State.
