Eagles drop showdown with DMACC

Kirkwood's hopes of winning the conference volleyball title suffered a severe jolt Wednesday night.

The 15th-ranked Eagles were swept by No. 7 DMACC, 25-21, 25-19, 25-17, in an ICCAC match at Johnson Hall.

The DMACC Bears took sole possession of the conference lead with a 6-1 record with one match left in the league campaign. Kirkwood fell to 5-2 and could still tie for the league title, but needs help.

The Eagles battled the Bears on near-even terms for most of each set, but faltered down the stretch each time.

'Game on 380 Sports' will serve area kids

Doug Yanecek, Steve Wise and Todd Ambrosy have devoted a good portion of their lives to youth sports activities as coaches, officials and program directors in the Metro area. Now they have combined their skills into a new organization called "Game on 380 Sports" that will carry their passions even further.

"Game on 380 Sports" has been created to help youth teams and coaches host events and keep prices affordable. They also plan to stage their own events and will be involved with basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball.

They plan to charge a modest fee for their services, but plan to keep costs as low as possible and help groups use events as fundraisers.

"None of us are doing this for a full-time job," Yanecek said Tuesday. "None of us are doing it to be millionaires or make it our living.

"Our motivation is to offer some events that have not been been available to kids around here."

Jefferson blows past winless Trojans

WATERLOO - Jefferson erupted for 249 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in the first quarter and the J-Hawks kept on rolling to a 50-3 victory over Waterloo East on Friday night at Waterloo Memorial Stadium.

Jefferson needed just five plays and 1:18 of elapsed time to get on the scoreboard.

Valentino Green grabbed a 27-yard touchdown pass from Jared Eivins, and the J-Hawk attack was off and running.

A 63-yard keeper by Eivins set up Valentine's 10-yard scoring run to cap off a two-play series. Still another big play, a 67-yard Eivins to Mason Short pass, moved Jefferson into the red zone. From there, Short scored on a 1-yard run and it was 22-0.
