Weldon helps Mustangs spike Clarke

DUBQUQUE - Alyssa Weldon collected 21 kills Tuesday night as the Mount  Mercy women's volleyball team spiked Clarke, 25-18, 25-21, 22-25,  26-24, in the Heart of America Conference opener in Dubuque.

Mackenzie Murphy had 17 kills and Maddie Bell added 13.

Kayla Daggett rolled up 49 assists for the Mustangs. Gabi Delsing had  26 digs, Weldon 20, Haley Stecklein 15 and Daggett 10.

Eagles, Mustangs win Klocke golf titles

Sterling McIlravy of Kirkwood earned medalist honors and led the Eagles to top honors in the Klocke Family Classic golf tournament at Hunters Ridge Sunday.

The Mount Mercy women's golf team won the championship of their division behind a third-place showing by Allyson Wertz. Valarie Davidson of Mount Mercy, who was not playing for the "A" team,  finished in second place in the individual standings.

McIlravy fired rounds of 66 and 73 for a 36-hole total of 5-under 139,  edging teammate Epperly by one shot for the title. Epperly carded  rounds of 72 and 68. James Morgan of Kirkwood tied for third.

Mount Mercy finished second in the men's standings, seven shots behind  Kirkwood. Kaleb Hagge of Mount Mercy tied Epperly for second place.

Look Who's Playing in 2020 IWSL

Twenty-one players have registered for the 2020 Iowa Women's Softball League as of Sept 8 (see list below).

The registration fee is $75 through Dec. 31 and will be $100 beginning  Jan. 1 for as along as space allows.

The 2020 playing dates are May 31, June 7-14-21-28 and July 12-19-26.

McIlravy sizzles for Kirkwood golfers

Sterling McIlravy of Kirkwood absolutely scorched the links at Hunters  Ridge Golf Course Saturday.

McIlravy, a sophomore from Solon, fired a 6-under-par 66 to steer the  third-ranked Eagles into first place at the Klocke Family Classic.

The final round of the 36-hole tournament will be played Sunday.

McIlravy owns a three-shot lead heading into the final 18 holes.  Kirkwood leads Mount Mercy in the team standings by six shots, 284 to  290.

No. 9 Eagles dominate own tournament

The ninth-ranked Kirkwood women's volleyball team had a great time in  its own tournament this weekend.

The Eagles swept two matches Saturday to finish the two-day event with  a 4-0 record, with the highlight being a five-set victory over  top-ranked Parkland on Friday.

Kirkwood swept Central (Neb.), 26-24, 25-17, 25-12, in its first match  Saturday and rolled by McHenry, 25-12, 25-16, 25-17.

The Eagles raised their record to 10-4 with the perfect weekend.

Taylor Carey blocked 15 shots Saturday, with 10 blocks against Central  and five more against McHenry. She also had 12 kills in the two matches.
