No. 4 Eagles sweep matches in Nebraska

NORFOLK, Neb. - Anna Gorsich collected 23 kills Friday as the  fourth-ranked Kirkwood women's volleyball team swept both of its  matches at the Northeast Tournament in Norfolk, Neb.

Gorsich had 11 kills in a 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 victory over McCook  Community College and had 12 more kills in a 25-15, 25-13, 25-12  conquest of Williston Community College.

Aubrin Dittmer contributed 11 kills against McCook. Madi Wagaman had  27 assists. Maranda Wheelock and Olivia Richards made 14 digs and  Wagaman had 13. Maggie Peters blocked six shots and Gorsich had five  blocks.

Bell helps Mustangs ring Trinity

CHICAGO - Maddie Bell rolled up 19 kills Friday as the Mount Mercy women's volleyball team trimmed Trinity Christian in five sets at a tournament in Chicago.

The Mustangs rallied to top Trinity, 25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 25-21, 18-16, in their second match of the day.

Mount Mercy lost to Kokomo, 25-19, 25-15, 25-15, in its first contest.

Mackenzie Murphy collected 15 kills and Alyssa Weldon had 14 in the five-set thriller against Trinity. Kayla Daggett kept busy with 57 assists. Gabi Delsing rolled up 47 digs, Haley Stecklein 16 and Weldon 15. Abbi Tunis blocked five shots.

Mustangs take 2nd at Gallop

The Mount Mercy women's and men's cross country teams both placed second at the 26th Annual Mustang Gallop at Seminole Valley Park Friday.

Andrea Ertz placed fifth for the Mount Mercy women in 15 minutes, 28.6 seconds for four kilometers. Jacob Blackmon finished sixth for the Mount Mercy men in 16:07.1 for five kilometers.

Iowa Central won both races.

Mount Mercy men boot Hannibal-LaGrange

Kevin Kastl and Rafael Passanha scored two goals Wednesday as the  Mount Mercy men's soccer team blanked Hannibal-LaGrange, 4-0, at the  Plaster Athletic Complex.

Kastl scored an unassisted goal at the 19:30 mark of the first half to  give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. Passanha followed at the 27:45 mark on  an assist from Adin Turanovic to make it 2-0 at halftime.

Kastl made it 3-0 with another unassisted tally, then Passanha  finished the scoring with an assist from Jonathan Scholes.

Mount Mercy wins 5th match in row

DAVENPORT - The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team won a slugfest  against Saint Ambrose Tuesday night to begin the season with five  straight victories.

The Mustangs prevailed 19-25, 25-16, 17-25, 28-26, 15-7 in a  topsy-turvy match in Davenport.

Alyssa Weldon led Mount Mercy (5-0) with 22 kills and 16 digs. Kayla  Daggett collected 41 assists and Maddie Bell had 14 kills.
