Mount Mercy men boot Iowa Wesleyan

The goals came in bunches for the Mount Mercy men's soccer team Saturday at the Plaster Athletic Complex.

Nolan Armstrong popped in three goals to help the Mustangs drub Iowa  Wesleyan, 9-1, in a non-conference match.

Kevin Kastl and Jonathan Scholes had two goals apiece. Nikola Petrovic  and Diego Lopez also scored for the Mustangs.

Kastl scored two straight goals in the first half to make it 3-0. Scholes collected back-to-back goals in the second half to make it 5-1  in favor of the home team.

Mustangs run 2nd at Wartburg

WAVERLY - The Mount Mercy men's cross country team claimed second  place in the Wartburg Invitational Saturday out of four teams.

Wartburg swept the top-5 spots and finished with a perfect score of 15 points.

Jacob Blackmon placed seventh for Mount Mercy in 15 minutes, 55.1 seconds.

Mount Mercy women fall to St .Mary

The Mount Mercy women's soccer team was blanked by the College of St. Mary of  Nebraska, 2-0, in a non-conference match at the Plaster Athletic  Complex Saturday.

Sarah Johnson made nine saves for the Mustangs.

Mount Mercy fell to 1-3 with the setback. St. Mary squared its record at 2-2.

   

KCC volleyball stuns No. 1 Parkland

The Kirkwood women's volleyball team pulled off a stunning upset in the first round of its own tournament Friday.

The ninth-ranked Eagles whipped top-ranked Parkland, 25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 20-25, 15-11, in an exciting match at Johnson Hall.

Parkland (17-1) suffered its first and only loss of the season. Kirkwood raised its record to 8-4 with two wins Friday.

Anna Gorsich led the Eagles with 14 kills and 21 digs against Parkland. Aubrin Dittmer and Abbie Ericson had 13 kills. Maggie Peters contributed eight kills and blocked seven shots.

Madi Wagaman had 26 assists against Parkland and Rachael Nelson had 19. Maranda Wheelock matched Gorsich with 21 digs. Taylor Carey blocked five shots. Ellie Bildstein and Gorsich had four blocks.

Kastl collects hat trick for Mustangs

Kevin Kastl scored three straight goals in the second half Wednesday  night to help the Mount Mercy men's soccer team blank St. Ambrose, 4-0, in a non-conference match at the Plaster Athletic Complex.

Jose Leite gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead near the end of the first half with an assist from Jonathan Scholes.

Kastl, a senior from Germany, owned the second half. He scored at the 51:35 mark with an assist from Rafgael Passanha, scored again at the 62:11 mark with another assist from Passanha, and finished his special night with an unassisted goal at the 82:31 mark.

Dane Lee had a quiet night in goal for Mount Mercy and did not have to make a single save in the 4-0 shutout.
