Linn-Mar girls fall in OT to No. 5 West

IOWA CITY - Iowa City West had a seven-point advantage at the free-throw line that proved to be the difference Friday night and the Women of Troy beat Linn-Mar, 54-47, in overtime in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game.

No. 5 West outscored Linn-Mar 9-2 in overtime.

Ally Disterhoft led West with 22 points. She knocked down 10 of 12 free throws.

Sara Strauel led Linn-Mar (2-2, 1-1) with 17 points. Kristen Eiles added 11.

'Just Drew It' shirts honor special young man

Once in awhile, a special person comes along and touches the hearts and souls of countless people in his community.

Drew Wall was such a person, and he had only 16 short years on earth to spread his message.

Drew passed away Monday after a five-year battle with cancer, but his spirit and determination will not be soon forgotten.

Saints pin Warriors this time, 52-24

The Washington Warriors crushed Xavier in their dual wrestling meet last January by a humiliating score of 67-9 with nine pins, and when it was over the Saints spent an hour in their practice room trying to sweat that drubbing out of their system.

This time somebody should have thrown the Saints a party.

Xavier collected five pins Thursday night and drubbed Washington, 52-24, in their Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Xavier.

Prairie grapplers open with routs

The Prairie wrestlers recorded 18 pins and three technical falls and flattened a pair of Mississippi Valley Conference foes Thursday at Prairie.

The Hawks waxed Dubuque Wahlert 78-0, then leveled Iowa City High 73-3.

Prairie had eight pins and a technical fall, and received three forfeits against Wahlert.

The Hawks had 10 pins and two technical falls against Iowa City High.

No. 2 Lions crush Cougars, Rams

DUBUQUE - The second-ranked Linn-Mar High School wrestling team drubbed Kennedy and Dubuque Senior in a Mississippi Valley Conference double-dual in Dubuque Thursday night.

The Lions socked Kennedy, 71-3, and dumped Dubuque Senior, 66-9.

Alijah Jeffery (120), Damon Griffin (126), Shea Hartzler (138), Ross Lembeck (152) and Luke Wempen (170) had two pins for Linn-Mar.

Dubuque Senior defeated Kennedy, 46-33.
