Schulte's 5 TD passes lead Saints

Xavier's first game in the Class 4A football playoffs Wednesday night looked a lot like its other nine during the regular season.

Another rout.

Senior quarterback Reggie Schulte threw a school-record five touchdown passes to lead the No. 3 Saints past Iowa City High, 48-10, in a first round game at Saints Field.

Cougars upset Muscatine, 20-17

MUSCATINE -- After four quarters of pulse-pounding, hard-fought football, Wednesday's Class 4A playoff game between Kennedy and Muscatine came down to the final second.

Muscatine placekicker Daylan Oldfield lined up for a 42-yard field goal to tie the game and potentially put it into overtime.

Oldfield, who earlier kicked a 52-yard field goal, made good contact, but the ball immediately sailed into the teeth of a blustering wind, falling well short of the goalpost.

And Kennedy players and coaches rushed the field in celebration as they hung on for a 20-17 victory at the Muscatine High School Field.

Vizzini helps Prairie pick off Rams

DUBUQUE - Jesse Vizzini did not grab any headlines for the Cedar Rapids Prairie football team during the regular season, but he began the playoffs with a bang Wednesday night.

Vizzini returned two interceptions for touchdowns and also grabbed a touchdown pass as Prairie slipped by Dubuque Senior, 30-28, in the opening round of the Class 4A tournament at Chalmers Field at the University of Dubuque.

Ross recovery lets Indians survive

The game. A season. High school careers.

They were all on the line.

And a big lineman, of all players, saved the day for Marion Wednesday night at home by recovering a late-game fumble to preserve a nail-biting, 29-27, Class 3A playoff win over Western Dubuque at Thomas Park.

Dolley endures rough year at Marion

Life has been totally unfair to Justin Dolley this year.

First his father died, taken away suddenly this past August by a heart attack at 51.

Now Justin has a torn MCL that will prevent him from playing for the Marion Indians Wednesday night in their playoff game. He wants to cinch his brace as tight as possible and get on the field, but there's no way he can. He has no lateral movement.
