J-Hawks end season with 42-0 setback

Cedar Rapids Jefferson saluted its 1972 state championship team Friday night at Kingston Stadium and said goodbye to this year's senior class.

The game against Dubuque Senior ended in a 42-0 defeat, leaving the J-Hawks with a 1-8 record in Brian Webb's first year as head coach.

“I was just out there running to get back into my sweats.”

We know Kennedy and Linn-Mar are still alive for berths.

And we know Jefferson, Washington and Cedar Valley Christian have been eliminated.

Here's what else we know:

Lombardi suspended; won't coach Friday

Cedar Rapids Washington football coach Tony Lombardi has been suspended by the Cedar Rapids school district and will not coach the Warriors this Friday night when they face Dubuque Wahlert at the Rock Bowl in Dubuque.

The suspension stems from a situation that occurred last Thursday night during Washington's game against Cedar Rapids Prairie at Kingston Stadium.

"I made a mistake, I'm going to own it and take responsibility and hope to move on," Lombardi told the Metro Sports Report Wednesday night.
