Cougars clobber J-Hawks, 44-0

Disappointment turned to domination Friday night for the Kennedy football team.

The Cougars, reeling with five straight losses to start the season, steamrolled Jefferson, 44-0, for a happy homecoming in a Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division game at Kingston Stadium.

Senior Alex Hillyer ran 23 times for 159 yards and three touchdowns for Kennedy (1-5, 1-2). Senior Riley Fergus completed 6 of 12 passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Patrick Martin caught three passes for 64 yards and a touchdown.

Davis nets 5 TDs as Lions drub Wahlert

DUBUQUE - Rhys Davis sat on the bench last year as Linn-Mar's third-string quarterback and watched Mark Atwater steer the Lions to the Mississippi Valley Conference title.

Davis is the starting quarterback now and he looked a lot like Atwater Friday night when the Lions faced Dubuque Wahlert at the Rock Bowl in Dubuque.

Better yet, he played like Atwater.

Davis ran for three touchdowns and passed for two others as Linn-Mar drubbed the crippled Golden Eagles, 49-6, to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Davis accounted for all five of his touchdowns in the first half as the Lions rolled up 408 yards and 42 points by intermission.

Huskies continue to improve

Cedar Valley Christian is still winless. The Huskies still give up big plays and tons of points in big losses.

The good news for Cedar Valley Christian football is things are getting better and it showed Friday night in the Huskies' 70-24 loss at the hands of the Midland Eagles at LaSalle.

The community was there to support their team and the 24 points were the most scored by the Huskies this season.
