Biery won't let sore foot slow him down

Trev Biery popped out of the Marion High School locker room Tuesday with a walking boot on his right foot and a wry smile on his face.

"Oh, it's not really serious," he said quickly. "I just have a little mid-foot sprain. I'll be good for Friday."

The eighth-ranked Indians (6-1, 4-0) host Clear Creek Amana (4-3, 2-2) Friday in another key Class 3A District 6 ballgame.

It's OK to peek: Saints eye Tigers

The Xavier Saints don't have to avoid the urge to peek ahead anymore.

The big game is finally here.

The fourth-ranked Saints will face the second-ranked Cedar Falls Tigers at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls Friday night at 7:30.

Both clubs are 7-0. Both clubs are aiming for the Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division title. And both clubs are gunning for high seeds in the Class 4A playoffs.

French enjoys life with No. 2 Ducks

Christian French doesn't have much of a night life at the University of Oregon, not with football practice usually looming the next morning with the second-ranked Ducks.

"I try to get to sleep in the 9:30 range and get at least eight hours of sleep," he said.

Unlike most colleges, the Ducks practice in the morning at 9 or 9:30 for a few hours. Then comes lunch, afternoon classes, homework, night-time football meetings and back to sleep at 9:30.

Metro players help Coe football flourish

A good coach could build a successful college football program by using Metro high school players as a foundation.

Steve Staker has done exactly that at Coe.

The Kohawks have 13 former Metro players from Cedar Rapids and Marion on their roster and they hail from all seven of the major high schools in the Metro. Some of them are prominent players and some are not, but they're all contributing to a successful team.

Cougars, Saints dominate all-Metro golf

The Kennedy Cougars and Xavier Saints, who dominated the Metro golf scene this year, grabbed eight of the 12 spots on the All-Metro team announced Tuesday.

Harrison Moore and Conner Koberg of Kennedy were unanimous picks on the first team. So were Matt Junge and Ben Sagers of Xavier. Cole Murdock of Kennedy and Zach Denny of Jefferson also received first-team honors.
