Ryan Sweeney likely out for season

The Boston Herald is reporting that Red Sox outfielder Ryan Sweeney had surgery Tuesday to repair a broken knuckle on his left, throwing hand and is likely out for the season.

Sweeney, a graduate of Cedar Rapids Xavier, broke his pinkie finger Monday night when he punched a door in the Red Sox dugout after being robbed of a base-hit in the eighth inning of Boston's 7-3 win over the Detroit Tigers. He was removed from the game in the top of the ninth because he could not throw the ball.

The Herald and other news outlets reported that Sweeney is expected to miss eight weeks, effectively making him out for the season.
