Kirkwood takes Region XI golf title

AMES - The Kirkwood Eagles captured top honors at the Region XI Fall Preview Monday at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.

Ryan Morrison of Kirkwood tied for the individual title and the Eagles won the team championship by 21 shots.

Morrison fired rounds of 71 and 73 for an even-par total of 144 for the 36 holes, tying Louis Psihoyos of DMACC for medalist honors.

Kirkwood tore up the course Sunday with a four-man score of 1-under 287. The Eagles followed at 304 Monday to finish at 591 for the tournament, 21 shots ahead of DMACC.

KCC golfers sizzle at Fall Preview

AMES - The Kirkwood Eagles grabbed a commanding 21-shot lead Sunday after the first round of the Region XI Fall Preview at the Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.

Kirkwood posted a four-man score of 1-under-par 287 for a big lead over DMACC, which sits in second place at 308.

Kirkwood golfers own the top-three spots in the individual standings heading into the final round Monday. Dawson Peters tops the leaderboard with a 2-under 70 on the 6,680-yard layout. James Morgan and Ryan Morrison of Kirkwood are tied for second at 1-under 71.

Ben Epperly of Kirkwood is tied for eighth at 3-over 75. Will Babcock is tied for 17th at 7-over 79.

No. 10 Eagles raise mark to 19-3

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The 10th-ranked Kirkwood women's volleyball team raised its record to 19-3 Saturday by winning two more matches at the Parkland Invitational tournament.

The Eagles swept Vincennes, 25-22, 25-13, 25-14, and knocked off Lincoln Land, 25-22, 22-25, 25-15, 25-11.

Alexa Ingram led Kirkwood to the victory over Vincennes with 15 kills, eight digs and four blocks. Haleigh Durnin had seven blocks, Sami Johnson six, Maddie Huff four and Abbi Tunis four.

Lauren Keane rolled up 29 assists and had 10 digs against Vincennes. Maddie Lavenz finished with 18 digs. Maddie Huff blocked seven shots. Tunis and Lavenz had three aces.

Ingram and Tunis paced the victory over Lincoln Land with 13 kills apiece. Durnin had nine kills and Johnson eight.

Mount Mercy runners claim titles

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Both of the Mount Mercy cross country teams captured top honors at the Bakersfield College Invitational Friday in California.

James Lindstrom and Aaron Goldin of Mount Mercy finished 1-2 in the men's competition to lead the Mustangs to the team championship. Lindstrom won the four-mile race in 22 minutes, 6 seconds.

McKenna Johnson of Mount Mercy placed third in the women's race to pace the Mustangs to the overall crown. She covered the 5 kilometer race in 20 minutes, 37 seconds.

No. 10 Eagles cruise at Parkland

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The 10th-ranked Kirkwood volleyball team sailed to a pair of straight-set victories at the Parkland tournament Friday.

The Eagles swept John A. Logan, 25-21, 25-11, 25-20 in their first match and defeated Southwestern Illinois, 25-13, 25-15, 25-7 in their second contest in Illinois.

Maddie Lavenz collected 41 digs in the two matches. Abbi Tunis had 21 kills. Alexa Ingram finished with 18 kills, nine digs and six blocks.
