Bruyeres claims Klocke Family Classic

William Bruyeres of Mount Mercy University captured top honors at the Klocke Family Classic golf tournament Sunday at Hunters Ridge.

Bruyeres, a senior from Brisbane, Australia, fired rounds of 67 and 69 in the 36-hole tournament and won the title at 8-under 136.

Ryan Morrison of Kirkwood tied for second place at 4-under 140 with rounds of 71 and 69.

Iowa Western won the men's title by two shots over Indian Hills. Mount Mercy finished in third place, just three shots off the pace. Kirkwood placed fourth out of 15 teams.

Iowa Western also claimed the women's crown. Lisa Lied of Iowa Western was the medalist with rounds of 77 and 71.

Lady Mustangs booted by Wesleyan

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Mount Mercy women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 verdict to Nebraska Wesleyan on Sunday.

Nebraska Wesleyan scored the first four goals of the match for a commanding lead. Andrea Lopez found the net for Mount Mercy in the 73rd minute from 25 yards away.

The outcome dropped the Mustangs to 2-1-2 for the season. Nebraska Wesleyan raised its record to 4-1-0.

 

Eagles win twice at KCC tourney

The Kirkwood women's volleyball team won both of its matches Saturday at its own tournament to finish the event with a 3-1 record for the weekend at Johnson Hall.

The 12th-ranked Eagles topped Sauk Valley, 25-12, 15-25, 25-19, 25-17, and whipped 18th-ranked McHenry County, 25-11, 25-9, 25-17.

Lauren Keane rolled up 70 assists in the two matches, with 37 assists against Sauk Valley and 33 more against McHenry. She also had 16 digs.

Alexa Ingram finished with 27 kills, 23 digs and nine blocks Saturday, with 19 of those kills coming against Sauk Valley.

Mustang golfers shine at Klocke

William Bruyeres and Allyson Wertz of Mount Mercy fired strong rounds Saturday to lead the Mustangs at the Klocke Family Classic at Hunters Ridge.

Bruyeres shot a 5-under-par 67 and stands in second place in the men's individual standings heading into Sunday's final round. The Mustangs are in second place in the team standings, just two shots behind Iowa Western.

Wertz fashioned a 5-over 77 to help Mount Mercy grab the 18-hole lead in the women's team standings by five strokes over Cardinal Stritch. Wertz sits in second place in the individual standings, just one shot behind Kimberly Nelson of Grand View.

The Kirkwood Eagles are in fourth place in the men's standings and trail the leader by six shots. Ryan Morrison led Kirkwood with a 1-under 71.

Mount Mercy men battle to draw

DAVENPORT - The Mount Mercy men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie with Saint Ambrose in double-overtime Saturday in Davenport.

scored an unassisted goal to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute, but Saint Ambrose countered early in the second half for a 1-1 tie.

Mount Mercy took a 2-1 lead in the 76th minute when a Saint Ambrose player accidentally hit the ball into his own net. The Bees tied the match again in the 88th minute and neither team scored in overtime.
