Mount Mercy golfers shine in Peosta

PEOSTA - The Mount Mercy men's golf team dominated the Duhawk Fall Invitational at Thunder Hills Country Club on Tuesday.

The Mount Mercy varsity won the 14-team tournament and the Mount Mercy "B" team finished right behind the varsity in second place. The Mustangs swept the top three spots in the individual standings and had seven golfers in the top-10.

George Long of Mount Mercy won the tournament with a 1-under par 70. Warren Bynoe and Pedro Velasco of Mount Mercy shared second place with 70's.

Coe placed 10th in the tournament. Hunter Livermore tied for 22nd with a 78 for the Kohawks.

No. 7 Lions spike Dubuque Senior

Amanda Ollinger collected 20 kills Tuesday night as the seventh-ranked Linn-Mar volleyball team swept Dubuque Senior, 25-6, 25-12, 25-21, in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at Linn-Mar.

Carly Spies had 11 kills for the Lions. Ellie Anderson contributed 29 assists and three aces.

Emilee McGowan finished with 18 digs. Ollinger and Ariana Rolle had three blocks.

 

No. 5 Prairie falls to Hempstead

The fifth-ranked Prairie volleyball team was swept by No. 14 Dubuque Hempstead, 27-25, 25-21, 25-22, in a tight Mississippi Valley Conference match Tuesday night at Prairie.

Kenzie Soeken led Prairie with 11 kills. Megan Oldenburger was 18-for-19 on serves with eight kills and two aces.

Kendra Gaskill collected 28 assists and Taylor Fisher had 16 digs.

   

J-Hawks fall at No. 4 Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS - The Jefferson volleyball team gave fourth-ranked Cedar Falls a good battle Tuesday night before dropping a 25-21, 25-20, 17-25, 25-14 verdict in a Mississippi Valley Conference match in Cedar Falls.

Maddie Slagle finished with 16 kills and 11 digs for the J-Hawks. Maddy Baxter collected 31 assists.

Kristen Naber contributed six kills and four blocks. Kaylee Donner had 15 digs. Raya George had eight kills.

 

 

Kennedy swimmers dunk Warriors

The Kennedy girls swimming team won all 12 events and defeated Washington, 133-53, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet Tuesday night at the Kennedy pool.

Kennedy is ranked No. 6 by the IGHSAU and Washington is ranked No. 10, but the Cougars did not give the Warriors any room to breathe.

Jessica Williams was a four-time winner for Kennedy. She captured the 100 fly and 100 back and swam on the victorious 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.

Kirsten Siebenga, Kassidy Long and Maddie Bagby were triple champs for the Cougars. MacKinzee Macho and Taylor Golden were double winners.
