Daggett gives Mustangs a big assist

CANTON, Mo. - Kayla Daggett rolled up 44 more assists Tuesday night as the Mount Mercy women's volleyball team topped Culver-Stockton, 26-24, 25-18, 17-25, 25-18, in a Heart of America Conference match at the Charles Field House.

Daggett ranks sixth in the country in assists in NAIA volleyball. She also had 10 digs in the match as the Mustangs raised their records to 18-10 overall and 8-7 in the conference.

Maddie Bell collected 18 kills for Mount Mercy. Laila Sain had 10 kills, Madelyn Orton nine and Abbi Tunis eight.

Gabi Delsing contributed 30 digs and Olivia Makinen had 11. Bell blocked four shots.

Kirkwood golfers top national rankings

The Kirkwood men's golf team has jumped to the No. 1 spot in the  latest NJCAA Division II rankings by Bushnell Golfweek.

Coach Darin Pint's team was ranked No. 3 in the previous poll, but the  Eagles climbed ahead of South Mountain and Mississippi Gulf Coast in  tight voting.

Kirkwood received 64 points, South Mountain 62 and Mississippi Gulf  Coast 60. Kirkwood and South Mountain both received three first-place  votes.

Mustang volleyball trimmed by Baker

The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team was edged by Baker, 3-2, in a  Heartland Conference match Saturday at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Mustangs bounced back in the match to tie the score at 1-1 and  2-2, but Baker dominated the third set for the victory. Baker  prevailed 27-25, 18-25, 25-21, 19-25, 15-5.

The outcome dropped Mount Mercy to 17-10 overall and 7-7 in the  conference. Baker raised its records to 11-18 overall and 5-8 in the  league.

Mount Mercy soccer blanked twice

The Mount Mercy men's and women's soccer teams had a tough day against  MidAmerica Nazarene Saturday in Heartland Conference matches at the  Plaster Athletic Complex.

The Mount Mercy men were blanked, 4-0, dropping their records to 7-6-2  overall and 4-4-1 in the conference. MidAmerica Nazarene is 6-7-2  overall and 4-3-2 in the league.

Mustangs work overtime to spike Benedictine

The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team made clutch plays when it counted Friday night.

The Mustangs won two sets in overtime and trimmed Benedictine, 27-25, 21-25, 25-23, 27-25, in a dramatic Heart of America Conference match at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

The victory lifted Mount Mercy to 17-9 overall and 7-6 in the conference. Benedictine fell to 13-16 overall and 8-5 in the league.

Abbi Tunis and Maddie Bell had 13 kills for the Mustangs and Mackenzie Murphy contributed 10. Kayla Daggett rolled up 46 assists in four sets.
