Harrington-Wara takes 5th for KCC golf

MORAVIA - Jacob Harrington-Wara of Kirkwood tied for fifth at the  Warrior Challenge Tuesday at the Rathbun Lake Golf Course in Moravia.

Harrington-Wara carded rounds of 73, 71 and 68 for a 54-hole score of  4-under 212. Harry Doig of Indian Hills claimed medalist honors at  10-under 206.

Roger Lianto and Philip Nelson of Mount Mercy tied for seventh place  at 2-under 214. Sterling McIlravy of Kirkwood finished ninth at  1-under 215 and James Morgan of Kirkwood tied for 10th at even-par 216.

Indian Hills won the team championship at 25-under 839. Kirkwood  placed third and Mount Mercy finished fourth out of six teams.

Kirkwood set a school record Tuesday with a final round of 11-under 277.

Mustangs roll in Heart opener

Jonathan Scholes collected a goal and two assists Tuesday as the Mount  Mercy men's soccer team blanked Clarke, 4-0, in the Heart of America  Conference opener at the Plaster Athletic Conference.

Kevin Kastl contributed one goal and one assist for the Mustangs. Adin  Turanovic and Duarte Leite also scored for Mount Mercy.

Dane Lee pitched a shutout in goal for the Mustangs by stopping the  only shot that came his way.

Mount Mercy raised its records to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the league.  Clarke fell to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Mount Mercy rally falls short

The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team staged a furious rally Tuesday  night, but the Mustangs fell short to Grand View in a Heart of America  Conference thriller at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

Grand View grabbed the first two sets, but Mount Mercy bounced back  and won the next two sets to square the match at 2-2. The fifth and  final set went into overtime, with Grand View escaping with a 17-15  verdict to win the match 25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 14-25, 17-15.

Maddie Bell led Mount Mercy with 16 kills and Torie Alexander had 10.  Kayla Daggett handed out 43 assists. Haley Stecklein made 33 digs,  Gabi Delsing 20 and Mackenzie Murphy 17. Olivia Makinen blocked six  shots, with Bell and Abbi Tunis swatting five apiece.

Former Kirkwood All-American Alexa Aldrich-Ingram had 15 kills and 18  digs for Grand View (9-6, 2-0).

Morgan fires 67 for Kirkwood golfers

MORAVIA - James Morgan of Kirkwood fired a 5-under-67 Monday and  climbed into a tie for third place after two rounds of The Warrior  Challenge at The Preserve on Rathbun Lake Golf Course.

Morgan stands at 4-under 140 for 36 holes heading into the final round  Tuesday, three shots behind the leader. His 67 is a new career-low.

Philip Nelson of Mount Mercy is tied for eighth place at 1-under 143.

Indian Hills leads the team standings at 17-under 559. Kirkwood is  third at 1-under 575 and Mount Mercy is fourth at 12-over 588.

Both Mount Mercy soccer teams tie in OT

FOREST CITY - Mount Mercy and Waldorf were fit to be tied Saturday.

The two schools played a soccer doubleheader in Forest City and both  matches ended in 1-1 ties in double overtime. The men's game ended in  a 1-1 tie and the women's contest ended in a 1-1 tie. Both matches  lasted 110 minutes and featured  defenses.

The Mount Mercy men trailed, 1-0, until Duarte Leite scored in the  66th minute to square the match with an assist from Kevin Kastl. Dane  Lee played the final 65 minutes in goal for the Mustangs and helped  keep Waldorf off the scoreboard during that time.

The Mount Mercy women also trailed, 1-0, until Melany Roggow scored in  the 48th minute with an assist from Carly Walker. Grace Byers played  all 110 minutes in goal for the Mustangs and made 10 saves.
