Epperly, KCC golfers shine at NJCAA meet

JOPLIN, Mo. - Ben Epperly and the Kirkwood Eagles swung the hottest  clubs at the NJCAA Division II National Preview at the Twin Hills Golf  and Country Club Monday.

Epperly fired rounds of 70 and 71 for a 36-hole total of 141, helping  the third-round Eagles take a 13-shot lead over Mississippi Gulf Coast  heading into the final round on Tuesday.

Epperly holds a one-shot edge over Trey Fessler of Mesa Community  College in the battle for medalist honors.

Mustangs battle for 1-1 draw in 2 OTs

BENEDICTINE, Kan. - The Mount Mercy and Benedictine men's soccer teams  battled for as long as they could under NAIA rules, but it was not  long enough to determine a winner.

Mount Mercy and Benedictine fought to a 1-1 tie in double-overtime  Saturday in a Heart of America Conference marathon in Kansas.

Mount Mercy took a 1-0 lead in the 67th minute of the second half on a  goal by Rafael Passanha on an assist from Nikola Petrovic. Benedictine  countered in the 72nd minute on a goal by Girma Kassa and nobody  scored again in regulation, the first overtime or second OT.

The result left the Mustangs at 6-3-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the  conference. Benedictine is 5-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the league.

Mustangs sweep Clarke in volleyball

The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team defeated Clarke, 3-0, Saturday  in a tight Heart of America Conference match at the Hennessey  Recreation Center.

The Mustangs prevailed, 25-19, 30-28, 25-23, with two of the sets  decided by two points.

Mount Mercy raised its records to 15-7 overall and 5-4 in the  conference. Clarke fell to 16-6 overall and 5-4 in the league.

Daggett shines as Mustangs trim Penn

Kayla Daggett was an assist machine Friday night.

Daggett collected 52 assists as the Mount Mercy women's volleyball team defeated William Penn, 3-1, in a four-set thriller at the Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Mustangs prevailed 23-25, 26-24, 25-18, 28-26 with three of the sets decided by only two points.

Daggett, who ranks 11th in NAIA volleyball with 774 assists, averaged 13 assists per set as the Mustangs raised their records to 14-7 overall and 4-4 in the conference. William Penn fell to 8-12 overall and 3-8 in the league.

No. 7 Highland trips No.14 Eagles

BOONE - The 14th-ranked Kirkwood women's volleyball team lost to seventh-ranked Highland, 21-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-12, at the DMACC tournament in Boone Friday.

The Eagles won the first set, but they dropped the next two sets by two points apiece before struggling in the fourth set.

Kirkwood swept Longview, 25-22, 25-23, 26-24, in its first match Friday and has an 18-9 record for the campaign.
