No. 2 Indians sweep South Tama

TAMA - Caitlyn Smith rolled up 37 assists Tuesday night as the second-ranked Marion volleyball team swept South Tama, 25-20, 25-13, 25-12, in a Wamac Conference volleyball match at South Tama.

Morgan Swanger led a balanced attack with 11 kills. Olivia Frazier had nine kills, Isabella Sade eight kills and Alyssa Thomas seven kills.

Thomas, Swanger and Tanea Westhoff led the serving for Marion. Westhoff had nine digs, Thomas eight digs, Haley Dullea six digs, Kenzie Redmond five digs and Swanger five digs.

Sade blocked three shots. Smith and Frazier had two blocks.

Marion raised its records to 20-4 overall and 6-0 in the conference.

 

No. 5 Prairie Hawks sweep Waterloo West

The fifth-ranked Prairie volleyball team swept Waterloo West, 25-16, 25-12, 25-11, in a Mississippi Valley Conference volleyball match Tuesday night at Prairie.

Kate Busswitz led a balanced attack with 11 kills. Kenzie Soeken had 10 kills, Megan Oldenburger six kills and Maddie Bell five kills.

Kendra Gaskill rolled up 33 assists. Taylor Fisher contributed 14 digs and Rylee Blood had nine digs.

Blood, Oldenburger, Gaskill and Haley Stecklein led the serving.

 

No. 7 Linn-Mar knocks off Wahlert

The Linn-Mar Lions rallied for a 21-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-16 victory over Dubuque Wahlert on Tuesday night in a battle of ranked Mississippi Valley Conference volleyball teams at Linn-Mar.

Linn-Mar is ranked No. 7 in Class 5A and Wahlert is ranked No. 9 in Class 4A.

Amanda Ollinger rang up 16 kills and had 13 digs for the Lions. Ellie Anderson finished with 38 assists, 10 digs and six kills.

Megan Renner had eight kills and five digs for the Lions. Carly Spies also had eight kills. Ariana Rolle contributed six kills and three blocks.

   

J-Hawks top Warriors in volleyball

The Jefferson J-Hawks used a balanced attack to sweep Washington, 25-15, 25-23, 25-21, in a Mississippi Valley Conference volleyball match at Jefferson Tuesday night.

Maddie Slagle led Jefferson with 16 kills and 11 digs. Kaylee Donner contributed 19 digs and five ace serves.

Maddy Baxter collected 38 assists and 12 digs for the J-Hawks. Raya George had seven kills. Autumn Anderson and Kristen Naber had six kills for Jefferson.

 

McChesney leads Jefferson swimmers

IOWA CITY - Mika McChesney was a triple-winner for the Jefferson girls swimming team Tuesday night in a 110-75 setback to Iowa City High in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Mercer Park Aquatic Center in Iowa City.

McChesney captured the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. She also swam on the triumphant 400 freestyle relay.

Josie Thompson won the 100 fly for the J-Hawks and swam on the 400 freestyle relay with McChesney, Megan Kitzmiller and Taylor Langel.
